Li/SOCl2 Bobbin / EDLC hybrid solution
Pulse requirements in long term applications mean that comparatively low energy but very fast high power is required. The properties of EDLCs (high power density) are the secret of the Vitzrocell hybrid solution. Its electrolyte solution consists of the solvent thionyl chloride (SOCl2) in which the conducting salt lithium tetrachloroaluminate (LiAlCl4) is dissolved.
The bobbin technique is used especially for long-term discharges with small currents. The cell housing is lined with lithium foil and a current collector with a carbon surface is inserted into the liquid thionyl chloride from above.
Hybrid primary batteries are always customised.
